Jay Scorzelli is currently an Assistant Field Director of UFCW Local 1500. Jay began his career with UFCW Local 1500 while he was a worker at the BJ’s Wholesale Club in Farmingdale, NY. Jay was very active in the failed organizing drive for the workers of that store but showed incredible promise during the effort. After eventually being fired by BJ’s for Union activity, Jay was hired as a SPUR (Special Project Union Representative) in November 1993 and continued trying to organize non-union chains throughout our jurisdiction. In October of 1997 Jay was appointed as a Union Representative by then President Frank Meehan. Throughout his two decades plus of protecting and serving our members Jay worked in the areas of Queens, Nassau and Suffolk Counties, the Bronx, Manhattan, Brooklyn and New Jersey.
In March 2014, Jay was elected to serve as a Vice President on the Local 1500 Executive Board. He has been a delegate to the NYC Central Labor Council and served as a delegate to the Long Island Federation of Labor multiple times. His dedication to the labor movement has helped him excel at serving Local 1500’s members. Jay has also served on multiple contract negotiating committees over the last ten years, most recently serving on the Pick Quick Key Food committee in 2017.
Jay graduated in 1988 from Nassau Community College in Uniondale, NY, where he earned an Associate degree in Liberal Arts.
